About Me

My name is Dana Hernandez, a recent graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Arts Honours in Anthropology. Currently enrolled as a Masters student at University of Toronto.

I'm interested in Colombia's armed conflict and our path towards peace, justice, and truth, with my masters guided by the following research questions:

  • How do campesinos from the Valle del Cauca in Colombia experience land dispossession and necroviolence during the 2000s in Colombia’s armed conflict?
  • How do memory projects and other social initiatives help make sense of the experiences with violence and land dispossession?

I plan to focus on Afro-Indigenous campesinos’ experiences with necroviolence, land dispossession, and displacement, and the memory work and practices used to interpret these experiences.

This work is influenced by my own family's experience as Colombian refugees who were in danger from the armed conflict, and all those lost and disappeared.
